SUMMARY:
Since its founding as a teen drop-in center in 1972, Community Solutions (CS) has grown in both depth and breadth of services in response to the growing and changing needs in the community. As one of the most comprehensive nonprofit human services agencies in Santa Clara County and the surrounding areas, CS provides prevention, intervention, treatment, and residential services to more than 6,400 clients annually, helping them overcome the challenges posed by mental health issues, substance abuse, trauma, severe family dysfunction, sexual and domestic violence, and human trafficking.
 
As our Master’s Level Intern, you will work and learn as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide high-quality behavioral health services while building your professional and clinical skills.
 
To qualify for the Master's Level Intern the candidate will possess the following:
  • Currently enrolled at an accredited college or university in a master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling or marriage and family therapy program, focused on one or more of the following: mental health issues, drug and alcohol services, psychiatric services, intimate partner abuse issues and family systems.
  • Must remain in good standing with their current university, maintaining the required level of enrollment and academic performance in order to continue pursuing a degree in their field of study.
  • Basic foundational knowledge of psychotherapy techniques and building a therapeutic alliance.
  • Basic foundational knowledge of the current DSM (diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders) and diagnoses in general.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality and it's limits.
  • General understanding of family systems and trauma-informed practices.
  • Basic understanding of legal and ethical issues related to the therapy field.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency using Internet Explorer, MS Office programs, and have the ability to learn time and attendance software and electronic medical records application.
What You'll Be Doing in the role of Master’s Level Intern:
  • Be coached and supervised to conduct and complete various client-centered assessments.
  • Partnering with your assigned LPHA to guide you towards formulating client diagnoses.
  • Partnering with your assigned LPHA to develop and implement treatment plans.
  • Provide individual and/or family therapy under the supervision and coaching of a licensed clinician.
  • Provide other treatment-related services (case management, rehabilitation, etc.).
  • Participate in required trainings, supervision sessions and team meetings.
  • Develop and demonstrate documentation skills for all client care (and other required documentation) according to required standards.
  • Ensure client-related documentation adhere to Community Solutions and any stakeholder regulations.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with team members, community agencies and resources.
  • Performs first aid as needed based on training and certification.

Working at Community Solutions:
This is a short-term temporary paid internship at a fixed rate of $23.00 per hour. The duration of the internship varies depending on availability and academic institution requirements and is not to exceed a maximum of 12 months duration. The expected hours worked will range and be outlined upon hire, and will not exceed 24 hours per week. This position is not eligible for benefits, outside accrued sick leave in compliance with CA paid sick leave requirements.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to both sit and stand for extended periods, talk and hear, and use office equipment; occasional need to lift and move objects up to 25lbs. 
 
Work is performed in office, clinic, or community environments; work is performed with people who may exhibit unstable and potentially violent behavior, continuous contact with other staff and the public. The intern will be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances and/or not attentive to personal health and safety for themselves. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the lack of personal care.
 
Work Environment and Location: This position is located within commutable distance to our Gilroy headquarters or San Jose office and is open to a partial hybrid work schedule, with frequent needs to be able to travel into our offices and meet with your supervisor and clients in the office or the community. We are committed to removing barriers to access to care for our clients, thus we often provide community-based treatment. This job will entail meeting with clients in person, and may also involve interacting with clients over telehealth.
 
Special Requirements:
  • Must be able to meet and receive a criminal records clearance as required by specific programs, licensing regulations and Community Solutions practices.
  • License: Possess a valid California driver’s license, current car insurance and a good driving record as documented by a DMV report and consistent with the Agency’s liability insurance requirements.
  • Requires an automobile to perform routine job duties.
