Position Overview:

Design West Technologies Inc. of Tustin, CA has an immediate need for a part-time Quality Engineering Intern (estimating 20-24 hours per week). The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to Quality department, facilitating production of projects for the Department of Defense. A day in the life as Quality Engineering Intern at Design West Technologies Inc.

The purpose of a Quality Assurance (QA) Intern is to support the QA team in maintaining and improving product and process quality within an organization. This role provides hands-on experience in quality systems, inspection processes, documentation, and problem-solving while contributing to the company's goal of delivering products that meet customer and regulatory requirements.

Key Job Duties:

Support Quality Processes:

  • Assist in performing inspections (incoming, in-process, final) under supervision to ensure conformance to blueprints, engineering specifications and customer requirements.
  • Help validate compliance with quality standards and procedures.

Documentation and Data Entry:

  • Maintain quality records, test results, and inspection reports.
  • Assist with data entry and analysis related to nonconformances, corrective actions, and audits.

Learn Quality Standards and Tools:

  • Gain exposure to industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100) and quality tools like root cause analysis, 5 Whys, or Pareto charts.
  • Observe and learn how internal audits and quality reviews are conducted.

Assist in Continuous Improvement:

  • Support quality improvement initiatives by helping track metrics, organize meetings, and document findings.
  • Provide input on ways to improve processes from a fresh perspective.

Hands-on Experience:

  • Work with inspection equipment (calipers, micrometers, CMMs, etc.) to understand product specifications and tolerances.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings and learn how quality interfaces with production, engineering, and supply chain.

Professional Development:

  • Develop critical thinking, attention to detail, and communication skills.
  • Learn the importance of quality in a real-world manufacturing or product development environment.

These tasks will assist you in developing an understanding of AS91000D Quality System and government/DCMA inspections

Experience/Skills Requirements:

  • Strong MS Office skills, particularly Word and Excel
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to read blueprints and engineering drawings preferred
  • Well organized and ability to compile accurate data
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Education Requirements:

  • Pursuing B.S. or a M.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Chemical, Manufacturing, Systems, Reliability, Quality, or Industrial Engineering
