Position Overview
The Geology/Hydrogeologist Intern will support a multi-phase hydrogeologic evaluation for the White Pine Pumped Storage Project. The hydrogeologic evaluation will assess groundwater characteristics, including conductivity, storability, and transmissivity.

This intern will support the planning and implementation of the hydrogeologic evaluation, working closely with rPlus Hydro staff and consulting hydrogeologists. Duties include managing documentation and data, conducting background research, supporting field data collection, and assisting with reporting. The intern will also coordinate with government agencies, environmental consultants, hydrologists, and engineers. Maintaining organized project records—including field notes, permitting requirements, and other datasets—will be essential. The intern will gain exposure to well installation and groundwater monitoring, pumping tests, and geotechnical bore cutting, collection, and logging.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and curious, with an interest in geology, water resources, and renewable energy. This internship is best suited for graduate or upper-level undergraduate students in geology, hydrogeology, geological engineering, or related fields. The position is a paid internship that is hybrid (in-person and virtual) with the potential to extend through the fall semester.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, execution, and documentation of the hydrogeologic evaluation for the White Pine Pumped Storage Project.
  • Organize and maintain project documentation, field notes, consultant deliverables, and data sets.
  • Conduct background research on site history, water rights, geological conditions, and other relevant information.
  • Participate in environmental and field investigations including hydrologic monitoring, and subsurface investigations.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a A.S or B.S. or M.S. in Geology, Hydrogeology, Geological Engineering, or a related field.
  • Completed coursework in structural geology, sedimentology, hydrogeology, or geotechnical engineering.
  • Strong interest in renewable energy infrastructure development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to simplify technical data.
  • Willingness to travel to remote field sites as needed (limited travel).
