Job Summary

Senior Internal Auditors are key contributors to the Internal Audit’s strategy and overall departmental success.  They perform internal audits, advisory projects, SOX testing and direct external audit assistance for all operations of Vail Resorts. They may also assist in fraud investigations and contribute to and execute IA department initiatives.  Senior Internal Auditors are responsible for all phases of assigned projects, including: development and implementation of audit program, preliminary survey, field-testing, development of audit findings, and drafting the audit report.   They may also lead selected projects.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Participates in the establishment of audit objectives, defining risks associated with the area(s) being audited and designs detailed audit programs to satisfy these objectives
  • Conducts and documents process walkthroughs, process maps that incorporate operational, compliance & financial controls, and analytical procedures in support of planning, fieldwork and reporting phases of projects
  • Plans milestone project dates, resource commitments, and prepares milestone reporting to audit management and clients
  • Performs audit procedures as assigned; identifies and defines issues; identifies criteria; collects, reviews, analyzes, and verifies evidence and prepares working papers to document audit steps performed, conclusions, and results
  • Uses projects as an educational/development opportunity for self, other team members and business stakeholders
  • Identifies and correlates themes in observations within and across projects
  • Demonstrates agility in delivering projects by adjusting tasks, priorities and project approach based on work completed thus far, risk information learned, etc.
  • Engages audit management in addressing barriers to success by escalating timely and proposing solutions
  • Evaluates internal controls, identifies control weaknesses, and formulates practical, actionable recommendations to improve the control environment
  • Organizes and expresses ideas clearly and with confidence in all aspects of written and verbal communication and documentation; adjusts based on audience
  • Attends and participates in industry conferences and meetings about specific project areas as well as areas valuable to Internal Audit and Vail Resorts capabilities
  • Performs and documents SOX related activities such as walkthroughs, control design assessments, and testing the operating effectiveness of controls
  • Supports continuous improvement in SOX and external audit assistance by proactively identifying opportunities to streamline controls and approach
  • Nurtures and builds positive relationships with stakeholders and external networks.
  • Proactively demonstrates creativity in projects and IA department initiatives
  • Aligns goals and development plan with IA strategy and client service goals
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities autonomously, seeking support as required.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of four (4) years of auditing, accounting, or related analytical business experience
  • Working knowledge of internal auditing standards
  • Working knowledge of theory, practices, procedures and methods of auditing
  • Intermediate knowledge of auditing and working paper procedures and techniques
  • Hold self accountable to high standards, commitments and deadlines
  • Demonstrates risk awareness
  • Ability to lead individual projects and manage the majority of aspects of the project, including other team members
  • Ability to compose clear, concise audit procedures, observations, and recommendations and to draft audit reports that clearly communicate conclusions and risks
  • Ability to effectively perform audit projects with minimal direct supervision
  • Demonstrates ownership for career planning and development
  • Ability to effectively perform assignments within agreed upon budget hours and deadlines
  • Ability to read, understand and assimilate audit data, documents, and reports
  • Supports team’s ability to achieve departmental goals by proactively sharing information, ideas and concerns, and willingly answering questions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders both in connection with projects and independent of projects
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and appropriately handle sensitive information
  • Ability to perform all the physical, intellectual, and analytical requirements of the position, including timely decision making
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet deadlines and commitments
  • Ability to understand, analyze and apply information contained in directives, regulations, reports, and other documents
  • Understands and manages expectations during project execution
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload, escalates as needed
  • Passion for Vail Resorts
  • Proficency with Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with data analytic software preferred.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. (English)
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or relevant operational certification preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting or a related business field with significant quantitative and analytical content.
