Aberdeen IronBirds Seasonal Internships

The Aberdeen IronBirds are the High-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles owned by Attain Sports, operating in founders Bill Ripken and Cal Ripken, Jr.'s home town. The IronBirds are excited to offer career opportunities for new or experienced sports professionals. Interns working for The IronBirds during the upcoming season will have the opportunity to learn every aspect of the business of baseball and gain experience that will be valuable in full time employment in any sports organization.

IronBirds’ seasonal interns will be the lifeblood of the IronBirds’ front office staff, handling a variety of important tasks crucial to team success on gameday and throughout the season.

Positions Include:

• Pre-Season (Jan.-Mar.) Marketing Internship
  • The Marketing Intern will learn the management and responsibilities of the Marketing Department, including but not limited to:
    • Assist with or independently produce graphics and marketing collateral for the upcoming season including digital display advertising in various sizes, social media graphics related to specific theme nights/promotions and general promotion of homestands/season, baseball/player-specific graphics
    • Assist with the creation of social media calendar/schedule for daily content on all social media channels as well as play a part in the creation, development, and execution of social media campaigns.
    • Community relations/outreach, including fulfillment of donations to charitable organizations of IronBirds tickets and promotional material, contacting local organizations for involvement with upcoming promotions and theme nights, and promotion of IronBirds charity initiatives to the general public through IronBirds-owned or paid channels
  • A successful candidate for the internship will:
    • Have experience with Canva and/or other graphic design/photo editing software
    • Have experience with Facebook, Instagram, X, and other social media platforms
    • Have knowledge of digital and traditional marketing strategies and media
    • Be a current undergraduate (rising college sophomore or later), graduate student, or recently graduated student, looking for experience in sports.
    • Have general knowledge of baseball
    • Possess superior interpersonal communication, graphic design, and copy writing skills
    • Be able to work effectively on an individual basis and within a team framework, handle multiple projects, meet deadlines, and achieve objectives.

• In-Season Marketing Internship
  • The Marketing Intern will learn the management and responsibilities of the Marketing Department, including but not limited to:
    • Assist with the scheduling and publishing of daily content on all social media channels as well as play a part in the creation, development, and execution of social media campaigns.
    • Capture in-game photos and videos to tell the story of the fan environment during a game.
    • Manage all photo and creative inventory as it pertains to baseball and social needs
    • Assist with execution of pre-game and in-game entertainment and giveaways
    • Be an integral part of the promotions team and assist in preparation, coordination, and execution of theme nights throughout the season
    • Assist with distribution of all marketing materials throughout the community and stadium, print/digital programs, posters, handouts, etc.
    • All other duties as assigned, including wearing the mascot suit for appearances and occasional physical tasks (moving furniture, lifting and carrying boxes or other items, etc.)
    • All duties and responsibilities will be overseen by the full-time staff of the IronBirds Marketing department.
  • A successful candidate for the internship will:
    • Have experience with Canva and/or other graphic design/photo editing software

    • Be able to work effectively on an individual basis and within a team framework, handle multiple projects, meet deadlines, and achieve objectives.

• Operations and Merchandise Internship
  • Interns will take turns learning the management and responsibilities of different departments, including, but not limited to:
    • Stadium Operations
    • Preseason stadium set up for interns able to begin in March
    • Pre-game stadium setup of kids zone inflatables, kiosk and wheel set up and ensuring the cleanliness and organization of the area.
    • Pre-game stadium preparation duties including re-stocking bathroom supplies, minor trash removal, mopping, sweeping, power washing, leaf blowing and more.
    • Assist in office organization and assisting with managing 80+ part-time staff within the Operations Department, including Fan Hosts, Crowd Management, Kids Zone, EMS, and Janitorial
    • Merchandise/In-store retail operations including receiving and inventory of merchandise, display and restocking of merchandise, customer service and sales including point of sale management and cash handling
    • Non-Gameday Events operations including stadium preparation, event staffing, operation of the facility and its elements
    • Communicate effectively with guests, all levels of management and fellow interns.
    • Provide excellent customer service.
    • All duties and responsibilities will be overseen by the Manager of Ballpark Experience and/or Manager of Retail and Ticket Operations in every capacity; pregame, postgame and events.
  • A successful candidate for the internship will:
    • Be a current undergraduate (rising college sophomore or later), graduate student, or recently graduated student, looking for experience in sports.
    • Possess previous or current experience in retail and cash handling.
    • Have impeccable organization skills.

• Partnerships Fulfillment Internship
  • The Partnerships Intern will learn the management and responsibilities of the Partnerships Department, including but not limited to:
    • Work confidently with staff of the IronBirds Partnership department or other departments, as well as IronBirds corporate partners and MLB partnership staff to ensure all aspects of partnership fulfillment are met.
    • Assist with execution of pre-game and in-game entertainment and giveaways
    • Be an integral part of the promotions team and assist in preparation, coordination, and execution of theme nights throughout the season
    • Foster relationships with existing clients and persistently prospect new business through cold-calling, networking events, and community appearances
    • Assist with distribution of all partnership and marketing materials throughout the community and stadium, print/digital programs, posters, handouts, etc.
    • All other duties as assigned, including wearing the mascot suit for appearances and occasional physical tasks (moving furniture, lifting and carrying boxes or other items, etc.)
    • All duties and responsibilities will be overseen by the full-time staff of the IronBirds Partnerships department.
  • A successful candidate for the internship will:
    • Be a current undergraduate (rising college sophomore or later), graduate student, or recently graduated student, looking for experience in sports.
    • Have general knowledge of baseball
    • Possess superior interpersonal communication skills, strong organization and event management skills, strengths in writing and editing

• Ticket Sales and Service Internship
  • Sales & Service Interns will take turns learning the management and responsibilities of the Ticketing Department, including, but not limited to:
    • Box Office Ticket Sales and Customer Service
    • Ticket Service Gameday Operations
    • Season Ticket Holder Benefits and Events
    • In-game sales of promotional items and inventory
    • Outbound ticket sales and marketing efforts including phone sales and community events appearances
    • And more!
    • All duties and responsibilities will be overseen by the full-time staff of the IronBirds Ticket Sales department.
  • Duties & Responsibilities include the following based on daily assignments
    • Box Office in-person and phone ticket sales and customer service
    • Setup and operations of the Ticket Service Window for in-game customer assistance
    • Plan and operate gameday ticketing-related events such as Catch on the Field, Kids Run the Bases, Launch-A-Ball, or other revenue-generating efforts promoted to fans
    • Season Seat Member service, including ticket transfers, benefit management, premium season seat member gift distribution
    • Contributing to in-game customer hospitality management, including assisting in premium/VIP customer areas with special group bookings
    • Making outbound sales calls on gameday and non-gameday to communicate special offers or connect with fans regarding upcoming events and promotions and generate revenue for the Ticketing Department
    • Other responsibilities and opportunities to grow as assigned by full time Ticket Sales staff
