Job Summary:
We are looking for a dynamic Backend and Database-focused Developer Intern to join our team working on the Orion Microbiome Database project. Orion Microbiome Database is a free online platform connecting millions of pre-computed microbiome samples with well-curated public cohorts. Our mission is to accelerate microbiome-related discoveries by breaking boundaries in data analysis and sharing. This internship offers an exciting opportunity to work on a cutting-edge microbiome data platform and directly contribute to this mission.
As a Backend & Database Developer Intern, you will develop and optimize backend services, manage both relational and non-relational databases, implement APIs for seamless data integration, and enhance data pipelines for better storage efficiency. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve database performance and ensure the platform is robust and scalable. Throughout the internship, you’ll be mentored by experienced engineers to guide your contributions and professional growth. The ideal candidate is proficient in Python and database technologies, has strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and is a self-motivated learner who excels in a team environment.

Compensation:
The estimated base compensation range for this position is $20/hour at the time of posting.
