The Culture Program Assistant will assist cultural program coordinators in the preparation and organization of cultural programs and services for enrolled Snoqualmie Tribe members. 


Essential Duties:

Level I: 

  • Assist in the planning, organizing and preparation of culture program services, events, and activities with department staff. 
  • Serve as primary resource for tribal members and staff for culture. 
  • Prepare raw materials and supplies for culture activities and events. 
  • Coordinate with department staff to research and incorporate Snoqualmie culture into various Tribal events/activities, such as drum-making, weaving, resource gathering, song and dance, canoe journey, conferences etc.
  • Assist in organizing group activities: Work closely with the lead coordinator to plan and execute engaging activities for Tribal members. This could include coordinating schedules, setting up materials, and breaking down setup.
  • Support craft projects: Help gather and organize materials needed for craft projects, assist participants as needed, and ensure that the projects run smoothly.
  • Assist in song sharing sessions: Assist in organizing sessions where Tribal members can share and enjoy traditional Tribal songs together. 
  • Contribute to drug and alcohol prevention activities: Assist in planning and implementing educational activities and events focused on drug and alcohol prevention. This could include researching relevant topics, preparing materials, and assisting with outreach efforts.
  • Assist in the set-up and tear-down of events and activities related to cultural programs and services for Tribe members. This includes preparing event spaces, arranging seating and equipment, and ensuring that all materials are organized and accessible.

Level II

Performs all duties of Level I, plus: 

  • Assistance with the Language and Elder’s Program initiatives. 


Additional Duties:

  • Be present, respectful, and participate in various Tribal cultural and public events, meetings, and activities.
  • Positively represent the Tribe at all times.
  • Share information with tribal members, staff, and local communities on Snoqualmie history, culture, and language traditions.
  • Work closely with groups and individuals to help build and maintain positive relationships. 
  • The Tribe values its commitment to community service and the well-being of its members. In recognition of this, each employee may be expected to perform duties from time to time which may not be related to their regular responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Strong organizational skills and accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.

Education & Experience Requirements:

Education Required:  

Level I & II -

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience:

Level I - 

  • Working knowledge of Snoqualmie Indian Tribe and other Northwest Tribal cultures, history, and traditions required.

Level II – 

Requires the experience of Level I, plus:  

  • Minimum of three years of experience performing level I duties. 

Certifications/Licenses: 

Level I - 

  • Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted Washington State Driver’s License and qualified driving record is required. 
  • Must be able to obtain a current Food Handler's Permit, CPR/First Aid, Snoqualmie Tribe Defensive Driving certificate, within 90 days of employment.

Level II – 

Requires the certification/licenses of Level I, plus:  

  • A certification or training in cultural program coordination or a related field is preferred, showcasing a commitment to promoting and preserving Native American culture.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a thorough pre-employment background investigation.
  • Must agree to be subject to the Tribe's Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing Policy to include pre-employment screening.

Work Environment:

The work environment includes an office environment in a controlled atmosphere building, with a travel requirement of up to 15% more in summer than year-round. Noise levels are low to moderate.


Tribal Preference:

The Snoqualmie Indian Tribe follows the Tribal Hiring Preference as outlined in tribal policies, including the Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance (TERO). TERO sets forth certain hiring preferences for qualified individuals who are enrolled in a federally recognized Indian tribe, as well as, in some cases, preference for certain family members of those individuals.


 

Additional Information

  • Hourly, compensation will be determined based on experience. Level I starts at $24.30 per hour, and Level II starts at $27.21 per hour. 
  • This position is a permanent full-time position and employment is at will. 
  • This position is currently open to internal and tribal member candidates only.
