Description

Are you interested in a career in fish management? The Salmon-Challis National Forest, Trout Unlimited, and Big Lost Ranch sponsor a summer program that provides current high school students or recent high school graduates from the Butte County and Mackay school districts an opportunity to explore fish related careers. There are two positions available in 2025. It is anticipated that the students will work from June 16 to August 14 with a work schedule that will generally be Monday through Thursday from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM (there is some flexibility in the dates and hours). During this time, participants will work with the Forest Service fish program in Mackay and will participate in a variety of fish related projects across central Idaho. The participants may also interact with fish professionals from other organizations such as the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Trout Unlimited, Bureau of Land Management, and private businesses. The pay is $15.00/hour.

Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

•Be a current student or recent graduate from within the Butte County or Mackay school districts (home and online students within these school districts are eligible).

•Be at least 16 years of age on June 16, 2025.

•Be able to work in water, hike several miles over rugged terrain, lift and carry up to 30 pounds, and work in adverse weather conditions.

•Provide own transportation to Mackay (transportation from Mackay to work areas will be provided)

An interest in a career in fish or natural resource management is preferred but not required.
