POSITION TITLE: International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) Coordinator Position
POSITION LOCATION: Bryant, Mitchell and Pattengill Elementary Schools
SALARY: Teachers Salary Schedule

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Posses a valid Michigan Elementary Teaching Certificate
Elementary school teaching experience required
Excellent organizational and leadership skills
Excellent communication skills
Have participated on district Equity and/or CARE team(s) or similar strongly preferred
Demonstrated success working with historically underachieving students and closing achievement gap(s) Be recognized as a collaborative instructional team member
Have daily experience teaching the district Balanced Literacy Framework
Have participated in explicit phonics, and guided reading training with district trainer or district consultant.
Demonstrated proficiency with instructional techniques such as:
Reader’s workshop including guided reading, differentiated word work, interactive read alouds, phonics instruction, Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP), instructional uses of running records/literacy assessments
Writer’s workshop methods including the AAPS district writing curriculum, Lucy Calkins writing units, writing with purpose
Differentiated teaching methods in all content areas including response to intervention Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 options
Integration of content areas
Have demonstrated skillfulness collecting and analyzing data for instructional purposes including report cards, NWEA, SRI, MEAP/Mi-STEP, CAP, etc.
Have daily experience implementing Responsive Classroom techniques
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Pedagogical leader of the PYP
Excellent organizational and leadership skills
Work with other IB coordinators and principals to plan and implement the K-12 IB program Member of the building School Improvement Team
Be fully conversant in the IB Programme Standards and Practices, the Learner Profile and all PYP publications including the PYP Coordinator’s Handbook
Plan and implement practices and activities in support of student learning through teacher implementation of the methods described in the PYP
Use and update the PYP Action Plan in order to guide decision-making and work Ensure all regulations set by the IBO are carried out properly and that all deadlines are met Serve as a liaison between IBO, school, teachers, and parents
Organize and conduct parent and/or community meetings in conjunction with building principal Organize, conduct and evaluate IB teacher professional development
Manage the process of curriculum development and review for each subject area
Manage the process of curriculum development, curriculum review, and assessment for each subject area including vertical alignment for curriculum, unit planning and professional development for PYP, MYP and DP
Ensure teachers are provided access to the online curriculum center (OCC) and that they are aware of the resources available there
Plan and implement collaboration meetings for teachers connected to all aspects of the IB Programme Standards and Practices including IB/inquiry based teaching practice, IB curriculum development and revision, units of inquiry, unit planners, lesson planning and design
Ensure PYP concepts permeate all units of inquiry and that revision of units supports continuous growth of students, teachers and development of the PYP
Provide guidance to teachers and students for the 5th grade exhibition
Collaboratively support development of the IB programming in the district including the Mitchell Scarlett Teaching and Learning Collaborative partnership
Attend IB professional development as needed
Excellent written and oral communication skills including use of Web based solutions to organize and communicate effectively
Publish an internal calendar of all IB related dates including due dates
Help oversee the PYP budget
Prepare self-study materials and accompanying documents for PYP evaluation/reauthorization
Complete other duties as assigned
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of people.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
