Description

The applicant must be eligible for trainee status from the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board—counselor trainee (CT) or marriage and Family Therapist trainee (MFTT).

  • Emerge is seeking graduate students (e.g., clinical mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy) looking for a clinical practicum and/or internship site.  
Requirements

Qualifications

  • Current student in a graduate program (Master's or doctoral) in a counseling-related field interested in integrating faith and psychotherapy.
  • Eligible for trainee status from the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board – counselor trainee (CT), Marriage and Family Therapist trainee (MFTT).
  • Strong desire to integrate Christian faith into counseling techniques and methods, and able to collaborate in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in professional business technology (e.g., Microsoft Word, email system, electronic medical record system, etc.).

Position Overview


We seek graduate students with a teachable heart to join our team. For this role, you'll need to live in or near Akron, Ohio, as you'll meet clients face-to-face at our offices with telehealth counseling opportunities.

EMERGE aims to provide a full range of Practicum and Internship experiences, focused on integrating faith with outstanding, cutting-edge clinical work. Our Practicum and Internship students work with all populations, including children, adolescents, and adults, presenting a range of issues. We expect our Practicum and Internship students to be willing to meet the following requirements:


Practicum Students

  • Agree to be on site a minimum of 10 hours per week, over at least 2 days. These hours will include direct client time, supervision, clinical meetings, and administrative tasks.
  • Schedule 6 clients per week, at least 2 of which must be during prime hours (4 PM to close).
  • Agree to complete your 2-semester internships with EMERGE following the post-practicum.
  • Attend weekly clinical team meetings on Thursdays from 1 PM to 2 PM.
  • Attend one hour of supervision weekly.
  • Practicum students will begin seeing clients after a 2-week “shadowing period.”

Internship Students

  • Agree to be on site a minimum of 18 -20 hours per week. These hours will include direct time with clients, supervision, clinical meetings and administrative time.
  • You must schedule at least 12 clients per week, and at least 4 must be scheduled during prime hours (4 p.m. to close).
  • Attend weekly clinical team meetings on Thursdays from 1 PM to 2 PM. 
  • Attend one hour of supervision weekly. 
  • Agree to complete both internship semesters at EMERGE.
  • Internship students will begin seeing clients as soon as they start at EMERGE.
