Job Description:

This internship is an 8–10-week hands-on internship that is heavily engaged in day-to-day production activities. Learning opportunities include gaining a broad understanding of meat processing, potentially including process management, problem-solving, troubleshooting processes, equipment operations, and managing multiple operations within the production system.

Description of Work Environment:

The work for this position takes place in production facilities. The production rooms are equipped with a refrigeration system that sustains the temperature at 35°-45° F.  The room is also equipped with long tables used for processing meat products; machinery used to grind meat; warehouse machinery and conveyor belts to transport boxes. The room is well-lit and has a level concrete floor that at times can be wet. The production room is also equipped with a loading dock and heavy-duty rack shelving to house product.

Responsibilities:

  • Work 40+ hours a week
  • Engage in all training, development, and educational opportunities provided
  • Ensure all GMPs and HACCP policies are being completed and documented on a daily basis and that all products being produced meet our company quality standards
  • Assist with product specification sheets
  • Assist with all duties pertaining to production line duties and responsibilities
  • Ensure proper labeling of product
  • Vacuum pack product using appropriate machinery
  • Complete necessary paperwork as assigned

Physical Requirements/Environment:

  • Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials
  • Requires prolonged standing during work hours
  • Requires stooping, kneeling, bending and reaching
  • Must work in noisy and crowded environments
  • Must work in and around odors
  • Must work in lower temperature environment (35°-45° F)

Safety Clothing/Equipment:

  • Must comply with company dress code
  • Layered clothing is advised
  • Company Provided: helmet, smock, gloves, hair and beard net
  • Non-slip shoes or boots
  • Optional: Back brace and/or other safety equipment available at employee request

Qualifications

  • Completed application
  • Must be enrolled at a certified College or University
  • Working towards a degree in a related field
  • Pass pre-employment physical and drug test
  • Availability to work long hours and weekends
  • Basic math
  • Ability to lift 80 lbs.
  • Have reliable transportation to and from working location
