AffiniPay’s Accounting Team is growing as it searches for a Tax Accounting Intern. As the Tax Accounting Intern at AffiniPay, this person will have a direct impact ensuring tax compliance across the business. This person will help with all aspects of tax, including sales tax, local tax, and Payroll tax. Our ideal candidate is a collaborative team player, who is looking to make a direct impact.
What You'll Do
- Process tax notices and maintain accurate records in the internal tracking system in a timely manner.
- Assist with calculating and making quarterly estimated and extension tax payments.
- Renew and maintain business licenses, tax registrations, and other local business taxes.
- Manage and update the tax compliance calendar to stay ahead of deadlines.
- Review monthly and quarterly sales and use tax (SUT) returns prepared by a third-party vendor for accuracy and completeness.
- Reconcile the sales and use tax payable account monthly.
- Find solutions to complex tax issues and collaborate with the Tax Manager to resolve them.
- Proactively communicate with federal, state, and local tax authorities via phone calls to resolve issues and maintain compliance.
- Work closely with the Payroll team to assist with payroll tax registration and related notices.
- Collaborate with the Accounts Payable team to ensure proper booking of all tax payments.
- Contribute to the documentation of tax-related processes and procedures for future reference.
- Undertake additional responsibilities, including certified mailing and special projects, as assigned.
About You
- Must be a recent graduate or expected to graduate with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or a related field by the end of 2025.
- Excellent analytical skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve complex issues.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage a professional workload independently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for data analysis and reporting.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to continuously learn and adapt in a rapidly changing tax environment.
- High level of integrity and confidentiality in handling sensitive financial information.
