In the Transmission and Interconnection Planning Internship you will assist with the project interconnection process of SBE Energy’s utility scale solar and energy storage projects. You will also provide multi-disciplinary support from prospecting through construction with various groups such as Development, Project Finance, Strategy & Investment, Operations and during Financing of the projects.

Responsibilities 

  • Work with Sr. Managers of Grid Integration during the interconnection process for SBE utility scale solar and energy storage plants.
  • Supports early-stage/mid-stage analysis for greenfield/brownfield project development including market performance, available transmission capacity, network upgrade costs and allocations and deliverability.
  • In conjunction with the appropriate support team, reviews and develops interconnection applications, study agreements, Interconnection agreements and associated drawings, specifications, and models.
  • Performs competition analysis using the known queued projects, transmission capacity and market prices to determine relative strength of a queue position.
  • Tracks transmission expansion plans and any changes to the interconnection process, affected system study process, market rules and their impacts on market prices, capacity, and competitiveness of a site.
  • In ERCOT, assist in submitting RARF’s during lifecycle of the projects, obtain authorization to back feed, synchronize and COD from ERCOT and work closely with QSE, EPC contractor, SBE internal team and maintain the schedule of the project.
  • Work closely with internal groups to submit and get approval for any design changes for the project such as inverter change, transformer change etc., Expedites projects through ISO interconnection queues, strategically timing queue entry and continually working with the ISO and TOs to minimize network upgrades and maintain project schedule.

Skills And Experience

  • Currently pursuing/received a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering/Science, Power Systems, Renewable Energy, or related field.
  • Related Power Systems or Electrical Engineering experience.
  • Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment.
  • Basic knowledge/experience running power flows either in PSS/E, TARA or PSLF or Power World.
  • Basic knowledge of Python and SQL is desired.
  • Requires advanced communication skills to ensure clear communication internally & externally.
  • Intermediate Excel skills.

Location: Denver, CO. We have a hybrid office work set up.
